SpyBot Search & Destroy v1.6.2.46

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

To see a list of threats Spybot-S&D can remove, in the navigation bar at the left click on Support --> Threats. For an introduction to Spybot-S&D, please read the tutorial. If you fear incompatibility with other software you are now using, although we can assure you that there is no danger you can review our compatibility overview which lists some software whose compatibility has been analyzed.

Spybot-S&D can also clean usage tracks, an interesting function if you share your computer with other users and don't want them to see what you have been working on. And for professional users, Spybot-S&D allows you to fix some registry inconsistencies and extended reports. A list of all the application's features is also available.

Boxee backed with another $6 million.

Social media startup Boxee has raised another $6 million in its attempt to fuse Internet video with TV. Now backed by a group of investors lead by General Catalyst Partners, this marks Boxee's second round of financing. Its first came last year in a $4 million contribution from Spark Capital and Union Square Ventures. The company plans to put its latest funding to work by inking more deals with media companies and set-top box manufacturers, and take on more staff to keep production moving.

Currently in alpha, Boxee is a free cross-platform media center service that allows you to view both local (HDD, DVD etc.) and Web-based content in a TV-like manner. You're able to access content from a wide variety of sites, including BBC iPlayer, Joost, Last.fm, ABC, CNN, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Netflix, YouTube and so many others. It supported NBC's Hulu but was asked to remove the function back in February and the two have yet to establish terms.

Boxee incorporates a dense layer of social networking as well. You can follow the activity of another user, add them as a friend and publicly rate and recommend content. Your media activity can be exported to other popular social networking services like FriendFeed, Twitter, and Tumblr. It also features support for Python widget scripts to expand on its functionality via community written plug-ins and add-ons.

Naturally, a service of this magnitude which embraces free Web content poses a threat to big names in the TV industry - cable and satellite companies are still heavily reliant on hefty monthly fees. If you've seen Boxee in action, leave us your impressions in the comments.

Asus to launch Moblin-powered Eee PC soon?

We already knew Asus has been mulling the launch of an Android-based netbook before the end of October, but apparently the open source future of its Eee PC line doesn’t end there. According to a story at NetbookNews.de citing an unnamed “safe source,” the company will also launch a Moblin netbook in that timeframe.

The Linux-based operating system designed and tuned specifically for Atom-powered devices was originally an Intel project, but its development has since been turned over to the Linux Foundation. Besides offering a sleek and streamlined user interface, Moblin should integrate with a number of online services and keep calendars, tasks, appointments and media content easily accessible and synchronized.

Asus’ first system pre-installed with Moblin will not be a new model, according to NetbookNews, and is likely to be found in the company’s Seashell range of Eee PC netbooks. There’s no mention of price or exactly which regions the Moblin-based netbooks will be available in, but the report does suggest the company is actively working with Google as well to put out a Chrome OS netbook at some point in the not-too-distant future.

Task Manager Has Been Disabled.

Many times when working on a computer
that has been infected with a virus, trojan, or piece of spyware I find myself with the Task Manager being disabled. Malware creators like to disable Task Manager so it makes solving the problem and removing the issue difficult.

If this happens you'll normally have to edit the Windows registry to fix the problem. A restriction has been placed on the user to not allow them to run Task Manager, this might be ok in an office environment where the IT department wants to control things, but in a home office this can cause major problems trying to fix a malware or virus issue.

Hide your computer in the Network.

Network Places in Windows XP na Network Explorer in Windows Vista

I will give two solutions in your requested topic. I hope you'll always be a fan of this site and please support us.

Using my Software WinBubble: Go to specific Tab > Tweaking Toolbox > Hide your Computer

That's it! This is great, if you don't want to memorize lot's of commands...

Learn How to do it Manually:

First, go to Start Menu->Run window. type: "cmd". In the command prompt enter the following commands:

Net config server /hidden:yes

This command will hide you from the Network neighborhood but your shared folders can still be access.

Note: in Windows Vista, you need to open the command Prompt as Administrator: Start Menu > type "cmd" > CTRL+Shift+Enter and hit Continue.

or else you’ll get this message:

System error 5 has occurred.

Access is denied.

So how about my IP address? what if they have an ip-scanner, still they can find me?

They can find you by using an ipscanner. The solution for this problem is by using a Firewall. Upgrade to Windows XP Service Pack 2, there is a free inbound protection firewall. For Windows Vista users, there is an inbound and outbound firewall protection by default.

To check if your computer is hidden in the network neighborhood type this in the command prompt

Net config server

Server Name \\MyPc
Server Comment

Software version Windows Vista (TM) Ultimate
Server is active on
NetbiosSmb (MyPC)
NetBT_Tcpip_{4365E532-AF25-4C8E-C31E-5D3BG50F7043} (MyPC)

Server hidden Yes
Maximum Logged On Users 10
Maximum open files per session 16384

Idle session time (min) 15
The command completed successfully.

Orbit Downloader 2.8.14.

Downloading videos, Flash games, and large batches of files is greatly simplified with this freeware download manager, but Firefox users may have difficulty with integration.

Orbit's primary interface is bland, but the basic toolbar and info boxes guarantee everything is easy to find. Orbit shines with Internet Explorer integration. To get a media file, simply right-click a video or photo and choose Download from your context menu. Grabbing a Flash game is even easier. Hover over a Flash file, and Orbit displays a button for a fast download.

Fast and small are key traits of this application. It uses a bare minimum of memory, and downloads are much faster than with a browser alone. Where Orbit shines is its one-button simplicity for downloading multiple files on a site. From there, you can easily filter for file type. Orbit's numerous configuration options make it one of the more flexible download managers available.

Although designed to integrate with the IE, Firefox, Opera and Maxthon, we had great difficulty getting Orbit to work seamlessly with Firefox. We finally gave up trying to get the Flash download feature to work. Nevertheless, anyone downloading large numbers of files will find this freeware indispensable.

VLC hits 1.0 milestone with new features and file support.

Our favorite media player, VLC, has finally reached the 1.0 milestone today. This major release introduces numerous bug fixes along with new formats, new codecs and a handful of new features. For those of you not following the release candidates, these include instantaneous pausing, frame-by-frame playback, better live recording and finer speed control during playback.

Overall it is the same solid application capable of playing just about anything you throw at it, but people working with less-common formats may find VLC’s newfound support for AES3, Dolby Digital Plus, True HD/MLP and Blue-ray Linear PCM decoders appealing. More details about the release can be found in the change log and on the VLC features page. The open-source media player is of course still cross platform, which means it’s available for all supported operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

What is "Error Loading Operating System"?

The Error Loading operating system error appears when your operating system fails to load properly. This error is localized to the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, so users of other operating systems should not face this problem. Essentially, the Error Loading Operating System occurs at a point between the computer's BIOS running checks on the system's hardware and the actual launching of the operating system. This error is usually accompanied by a black screen and occurs directly after the installation of Windows XP.

What causes this error?

You can expect to see the Error Loading Operating System error when there is an issue with the way the BIOS and the Windows XP operating system are communicating with each other. Most commonly, the BIOS has an issue where it does not support or has no way to correctly manage the capacity of the hard drive that Windows XP was installed to.

How can I resolve this error?

The Error Loading Operating System problem can be solved in a variety of different ways. However, it is important that you have some knowledge of computers before you proceed with any of the suggested solutions to this error message. Not knowing exactly what you are doing, or failing to follow the directions you see on your screen could result in the corruption or destruction of your computer. Changing or flashing your BIOS can have detrimental effects on your computer and should only be performed if you are completely sure you know what you are getting into.

Your first step to resolve the Error Loading Operating System issue should be to update your computer's BIOS. Check your computer's manual for information on how to do this or call the company which constructed your computer. Alternatively, if you built your computer yourself, consult the manual which came with your motherboard.

Once you are sure that your BIOS has been upgraded to its most recent version, determine which type of BIOS you are using. Each BIOS is somewhat different, and newer versions of popular BIOSes tend to change the locations of different functions and features, so consult your computer vendor, your motherboard manual, or a tech support forum for the most up to date information on how to make sure that your hard drives are interfacing properly with your BIOS.
